  1. The real reason socks are too tight in the ankles now is many socks are made in Asia where many people are much smaller than many Americans. The socks are super tight in the ankle areas now. Stretching does not work on most socks because they are knitted too small to start with. I have seen large size men’s socks with ankles the size we wore when I was a child. Just plain wrong construction at the start of things. It is just about impossible to find socks sized properly throughout the length and width of the socks. Also many manufacturers are trying to save money however they can and they skimp on creating proper sizes in the ankle areas. The only socks I have found with proper sizing are Scottish kilt house. The Scots have larger sized ankles and calves, and my family is Scottish. So I do think ethnic background can contribute to required sock sizes.
